The very first time someone told me I had body odour, I cried!
It was in Singapore, at the first job I volunteered in and the young man had apparently struggled to tell me for days but that day he’s had enough.
Kudos to him though, he said it to me privately yet I was still offended. I mean, who takes lightly being told they stink? Lol
But that was one of the very first times in my life I became self-aware about my body hygiene.
You see, I used to sweat a lot and never wore deodorants or perfumes.
Before I left the shores of Nigeria, I never bothered or was conscious about how I smelled but that single incident changed that.
I became self-aware. I started to invest in deodorants and perfumes that helped me smell nice, and soon enough, girls started to notice. haha. (Just kidding)
Why am I sharing this with you?
Fulfilling purpose in life requires that you are self-aware.
Self-awareness requires self-examination. Trust me, an honest, non-judgmental self-assessment of yourself is not easy but you have to do it, and do it consistently.
The Bible says, "for if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged."
You need to be aware of your strengths and weaknesses. You need to be aware of the things you are good at and the ones you’re not. You need to know what you can do, and cannot do.
Why should you be self-aware? Because when you know your strengths, you don’t dwell or cry over your weakness.
You simply leverage on your strengths to help you become that person of value. You use your strengths to add value to yourself and others so much your weaknesses grow thin.
You consciously feed your strengths while you starve your weaknesses.
Always remember, anything you are not aware of about yourself cannot add value to you and others.
