FAIL FORWARD

A few days ago, a colleague of mine had a pretty bad fall. She was limping when I saw her and I asked if she was okay?

While I was worried for her because in the past, whenever she falls, she would usually fracture a bone in her body, this time she seems to be coping well.

With a smile on her face, she said, "I am okay Samuel. I didn't break anything this time because I fell forward".

She continued, "I have noticed, every time I fall backwards, or on my back, I always break a bone but if I fall forward, I don't break anything".

We both giggled...

Why am I sharing this with you?

It is important in life that when you fall or fail, you should do it forward.

What does it mean to fall forward? It means to learn something every time you fall.

Like my colleague, she had learned how to fall next time. Her failures had taught her valuable lessons.

To fall and not learn something is to lose the value of failure. Yes, failure has value - and it's in learning something from that experience.

Any fall or failure you don't learn from, you're risking a worse failure next time.

In his book, Failing Forward, John Maxwell said, "failure is not the opposite of success, it is the road to it."

Failure can only be the road to success when you choose to learn from it, and not sulk or get discouraged every time you fall.

So, I hope you fall forward when next you fall.

I believe in you.
